About the Uher Typ 4000 Report-S

The Uher 4000 Report series is one of the most respected portable

reel-to-reel recorders ever produced, widely used for field recording,

journalism, and broadcast work.

The Report-S model, introduced around 1963, featured improved

motor performance and refined electronics over earlier versions,

continuing Uher’s reputation for durability and reliability in demanding

environments.

These machines support four tape speeds—7½, 3¾, 1â…ž, and 15⁄16 ips—

allowing for everything from high-fidelity recording to extended

playback times.

They accommodate 5-inch reels and are designed for true portability,

operating on batteries or mains power.

Known for their “built like a tank” construction, Uher recorders remain

highly regarded by collectors and enthusiasts for their analog sound

quality and serviceability.
